KYC API: Upcoming 2025 NACE Rev. 2.1 update

Posted 2025-09-19

Overview

The reclassification of national activity codes based on NACE Rev. 2.1, the updated Statistical Classification of Economic Activities in the EU, represents a key regulatory development across European business registers for 2025.

Adopted by Eurostat in October 2022 and effective from 2025, NACE Rev. 2.1 reflects shifts in the EU economy. It introduces new categories and restructures existing ones to better capture emerging sectors such as digital services, content distribution, and fintech – while preserving the core framework. This standardized classification supports consistent and comparable European statistics for use by governments, businesses, and citizens.

Key Changes: Classification Enhancements

  • Structural changes across all four classification levels
  • New categories for emerging activities
  • Merging or removal of outdated categories
  • Modifications to existing categories
  • These changes aim to keep statistical data relevant and enable more precise economic analysis and policy-making.

Implementation Notes

While adoption is mandatory for EU member states, each country follows its own rollout plan and timeline. We continuously monitor these developments to make sure the data we provide through KYC API accurately reflects the respective registry data.

Countries in our KYC API already displaying the updated NACE codes:
